Location
The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park is only 15 minutes from the centre of Hobart and contains cross country, downhill and jumps courses. The Park has the added advantage of being connected to the wider network of trails across Mt Wellington, and in particular is where you end up at the end of the North South track. The route described here is a 5km cross country course, but this is only one of a growing network of trails that can be ridden in the park.
GETTING THERE
By car, the easiest way to get to the Glenorchy Park from the Hobart CBD is to follow the Brooker Highway as though you are heading towards Launceston, but then turn left into Glenorchy at Elwick Road just past the Hobart Show Grounds. Continue on this road through a roundabout (note the Hobart Bicycle Intercity cycleway enters here so if cycling out from Hobart jump off here and follow these directions) and a set of lights, and then through another roundabout as Elwick Road becomes Eady Street . At the next roundabout after this, turn left onto Tolosa street and just keep following this road pretty much right up to the end past Tolosa Park until you come to a bit of a dirt road and a turning circle. Park here and then push your bike through the gate and it's another 350 metres up this road to the Park trailhead.
An alternative route, by bike, is to ride up Mt Wellington (See Pipeline Track for one option) and the cut across onto the North South Trail and follow this down into the top end of the park.
ROUTE OPTIONS
There are now three official route options to explore this mountain bike park - Silk Road (easy 3km), Merton Loop (intermediate 3.2km) and the Challenger Loop Intermediate (3.8km) and you can go to the official website (See Resources Tab) to download the park map and then basically go and explore. All three of these trails are now well signed throughout the MTB Park.
You can also link onto the North South Track from this Mountain Bike Park and other Wellington Trails from here.
ROUTE DETAILS
To get into the trails from the Car Park, just head past the well signed trail head and past the gate (which may be open) and then ride up the gravel road until you come to another major trail head sign on your left below the mountain bike park. The actual trails start on the other (right hand as you're riding up) side of the road. Once you've chosen your trail, you should be able to just follow the signs.
Silk Road
Easy 3km
Gentle ride along single track and fire trails, looping around the Park through native grassland and open forest.
Merton Loop
Intermediate 3.2km
Single-track loop through native grassland before winding uphill and then rolling down through the loops and small obstacles of the main park.
Challenger Loop
Intermediate (3.8km)
A steady climb with a series of hair pin turns rewarded by fun berms, obstacles and a gully loop back down into the park

Could do with some optional detours with signage.
With some more development could be a great park,
