Extension of Shared Use Trial on the Pillinger Drive Track from Fern Tree Park to Pillinger Drive, Mt Wellington

The Wellington Park Management Trust has extended the trial of Shared Use (for cycling and walking) on the Pillinger Drive Track from Fern Tree Park to Pillinger Drive until the end of June 2017.

Following the initial trail at the beginning of 2016, the Trust decided to confirm the conversion of the upper portion of Middle Track to shared use, but extended the trial conversion of Pillinger Drive Track to allow various track improvements to be made and their effects assessed.

Hobart City Council has now completed the improvements and the Trust would like to get user feedback on these before it makes a final decision on whether the Pillinger drive track should remain shared use (walkers and bike riders).

The shared use trial on the Pillinger Drive Track has therefore been extended to the end of June 2017.

During the extended trial the Trust will:

  • collect anonymous data on track usage (number and type of user)
  • seek feedback from the community via an online form on the Trust website www.wellingtonpark.org.au
  • seek feedback from track users via on-site survey
  • monitoring the track for surface erosion and corridor change.

Signage will shortly be installed at key locations (Park entry points, trailheads and track intersections) advising users of the new use arrangements.
